Kristen McMenamy: a career as an eternal supermodel

Kristen McMenamy, born in 1964, is an American model particularly known for her special androgynous yet eclectic allure. Her timeless, almost eternal beauty makes her one of the most popular supermodels of all time. Her natural hair colour is red, many will remember her walking the runway for Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld with her hair in its original version. Many others, however, began to appreciate her after the decade of the 1990s, when McMenamy – in a perfect Snow Queen version – finally made a comeback in the fashion system.

Born in Easton, Pennsylvania, Kristen McMenamy is the third of seven children and soon after dropping out of college, she decided to pursue a modelling career. Despite her good grades at school nothing could stop Kristen, in fact she was determined from the start to realise her dream of walking the world’s most famous catwalks.

But, you know, fashion is never an easy world. Despite many ‘no’s’ from some of the best known agencies in the industry, Kristen McMenamy’s career began around 1985. From here McMenamy will start working for some of the biggest fashion houses around the world. From Versace to Chanel, via Valentino and Christian Dior, to Jean-Paul Gaultier, Gianfranco Ferré, Thierry Mugler and many more. Over the years Kristen McMenamy has been photographed by some of the best photographers such as Lindbergh, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, appearing in well-known magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Vanity Fair and Elle.
